COLT 2006 will include a session devoted to the presentation of open problems. A description of these problems will also appear in the COLT proceedings.
The writeup of an open problem should include the following:
- A clear, self-contained description of an open problem.
- Motivation for the study of this problem.
- The current state of understanding for this problem, including known partial solutions and citations of related published work.
The deadline for submission of open problems has been extended to April 11, 2006. They will be reviewed quickly.
Format and submission details are as follows:
- The open problems should be 1-2 pages, in the COLT proceedings format
- Please submit them electronically to colt2006problems@gmail.com
- On the subject line please include: open problem for colt2006.
- The submissions should be attached to the email, in postscript or pdf.
- Deadline: April 6, 2006.
Ideally, your open problems should be
- well-defined mathematical questions,
- nontrivial, and
- explainable without requiring too much specialized background knowledge.
Formulating the problem should represent a novel insight, or the fact that the problem remains open should not be widely known. A reward is encouraged but not required.
Open Problem Chairs: Shai Ben-David and Phil Long.
